I took the day off from work today and painted with my friend, John. ;) He encouraged me to try my hand at copying this William Bouguereau painting (first photo). I'm asking myself why I haven't attempted this before. I'm really pleased with the result and it was also a great exercise. I don't normally go quite this dark but what a dramatic effect. My version is watercolor and measures 11 x 7.5.

interesting exercise!
Your child seems looking at us whereas the other one is looking on the side. So we do'nt feel a nostalgic atmopshere , your child seems more decided!
Kathy I actually like your version better as it looks more natural and the girl is more connected with the viewer. What an excellent exercise you did an excellent job!
